Masked Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken over guard duties at the National Assembly complex in Abuja. This development comes after the invasion and stealing of the mace by thugs sponsored by suspended lawmaker, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege on April 18th. The mace has since been found and returned to the chamber.

Senate President in reaction to the incident, called for improved security within the National Assembly premises. According to the senate president, the attack on the red chambers by the thugs, was an assault on democracy and the rule of law.

In an apparent response to Saraki’s call for improved security, the National Assembly this morning witnessed heavy presence of police and DSS operatives. While there were regularly dressed police operatives, the DSS operatives were spotted wearing full combat gear and face masks.

Even the number of DSS men guarding the Senate President has been increased from what previously obtained with all of them wearing face masks.
