Following the Nigeria Hydrological Service Agency’s prediction in its 2020 Flood Outlook that some parts of 275 LGAs in the 36 states of the federation including the FCT fall within the moderately probable flood risk areas, the SEMA DG, Ayim Princewill, has warned those living in flood prone areas to be at alert of the impending flood in the month of September.
Princewill, who gave the warning while speaking in an interview with our correspondent in Calabar on Monday July 20, 2020, advised those in flood prone areas to move upland or construct channels.
He also advised those involved in agriculture to use resistant varieties and risk management techniques to guide against poor yield and crop failure.
The SEMA Boss further said that as parts of its strategic plans, the Agency has trained and prepared Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMCs) in all the 18 local government areas of Cross River state to keep citizens safe in any case of an emergency.
