MILITARY RESTATES COMMITMENT TO NIGERIAN CONSTITUTION PROMISES TO REMAIN LOYAL TO CIVIL AUTHORITY
The military has restated its commitment to the Nigerian Constitution with a promise that it will remain uninterested in politics and loyal to the civil authority and the President, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, made the pledge on behalf of the military in a statement on Monday.
The pledge follows comments by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Robert Clark, which the military said suggested that the current political leadership should hand over power to it for the purpose of restructuring.
While distancing itself from the comment, the military pledged that it would continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities professionally.
PUBLIC COMMENTATOR DECRIES LEVEL OF INSECURITY FOLLOWING KILLING OF INI UMOREN
A public commentator and legal practitioner, Joy Ikpeme has decried the continuous insecurity which women particularly have to deal with in Nigeria.
Joy Ikpeme who was reacting to the unfortunate rape and murder of 26 year old Ini Umoren said it is unfortu8nate that the Nigerian society is increasingly becoming harder for women to live in daily due to the failure of government to create secure environments among others.
The legal practitioner also explained the consequences of the crime and what could happen to the alleged murderer of Ini Umoren if found guilty.
Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom state Governor Udom Emmanuel has assured that everyone who had a hand in the death of 26-year-old Miss Iniubong Umoren who was allegedly abducted, raped and murdered by Uduak Frank Akpan would receive adequate punishment according to law.
Governor Emmanuel, who gave the assurance during a condolence visit to late Umoren’s family on Monday in Oruk Anam local government area, also assured that the state government will not interfere with police investigations.
The Governor who was represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Emmanuel Ekuwem, expressed deep pain over the gruesome manner in which the innocent girl was murdered.
COMEDIANS GUILD OF CROSS RIVER STATE EMPAHSIZE IMPORTANCE OF LAUGHTER
The President of the Comedians Guild of Cross River State, Loko Smith says Laughter is needed in the life of everyone, as it is one of the recipes for good living.
Loko Smith said this while speaking with our correspondent on Monday in Calabar, on the commemoration of the World Laughter Day, which was established in 1998.
The State Comedians Guild President, while likening the inflow of people for comedy shows to their love for laughing, said comedians play an integral role in life as a whole.
Loko Smith also highlighted that the recent Awards were to recognize and distinguish those who have created a platform for Comedy to thrive in the state.
The World Laughter Day holds annually on the first Sunday of May, to raise awareness about laughter and its many healing benefits.
