As the world marks Hypertension day, health experts say conscious lifestyle modifications and medications can lower blood pressure and decrease the risk of health complications.
Speaking on Monday’s edition of the Hit Breakfast show to commemorate the 2021 World Hypertension day, a cardiologist from the university of Calabar Teaching hospital, Dr Ezoke Epoke said regular screening is necessary especially for persons above the age of 30 to prevent hypertension which is a silent killer.
Dr. Epoke added that high stress levels, obesity, sedentary lifestyle and poor dietary habits are some of the main reasons for hypertension in young people.
This year’s theme is Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer. It focuses on combatting low awareness rates worldwide, especially in low to middle income areas, and accurate blood pressure measurement methods.
