Nigeria Medical Association, CRS Branch, Urges Government To Take Urgent Action To Curb Alarming Rate Of Migration Of Doctors

The Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, Cross River state Branch, Dr Innocent Abang, has urged the federal and state governments to take urgent action in ensuring that medical professionals in the country do not all migrate to other countries, leaving Nigerians with a medical system that is already failing.

Dr Abang who spoke in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Thursday, was reacting to the huge turnout of medical professionals in Abuja recently, for recruitment by the Saudi government.

The state NMA Chairman who noted that citizens have a part to play in this struggle since they will be the most affected, called on Nigerians to hold the government accountable.

Dr Abang who further spoke on the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure CONMESS recently approved by Governor Ben Ayade, said this will help keep doctors in the state government service, but added that more should be done to discourage them from migrating abroad.
