Cross River State Government Assures Citizens of a Clean Calabar Metropolis, Following Evacuation of Dumpsites Around the City

The Cross River state government has reassured residents of Calabar, that the mountainous refuse dumps around the metropolis will be evacuated soon.

The Deputy Governor Ivara Esu, who stated this while on an inspection of refuse evacuation intervention by the Cross River State Waste Management Agency on Monday in Calabar, said it was unfortunate that the waste was building up in the city which was once adjudged the cleanest city in Nigeria, and asserted that any attempt to retrogress from that, is not acceptable to the government and people of the state.

Esu stated that the purpose of his inspection was to ascertain the level of evacuation of waste in the metropolis, as funds have been made available to the Agency.

Also speaking, the General Manager, Cross River State Waste Management Agency, Sunday Oko, said the agency has been given assistance and enablement to carryout intervention work at the moment, and will be followed by the normal evacuation by the regular contractors.

Oko further assured residents that the state capital will return to its clean status in one week.
