Driver Dies as Pick up Truck Explodes on Calabar Highway

At least one person on Monday, 23rd May, 2022, died while another was critically injured after a flat-bed Pick-up truck exploded and burnt to ashes around the popular Culvert Bus Stop, by the Murtala Muhammed Highway, in Calabar.

Speaking with our correspondent at the scene of the occurrence,  an eyewitness who preferred anonymity said the incident occurred as the driver of the Pick-Up truck, which was conveying drums of petrol, applied brakes as he approached a speed bump.

The respondent also said the vehicle burst into flames, burning the driver to death, added that the Conductor, who survived the crash with severe burns, is presently receiving treatment in an undisclosed Hospital.

The Eyewitness, who further commended men of the fire service for their rescue efforts, however appealed to Fire service in the state to set up an annex Fire Station around the Ikot-Ansa or Zone 6 axis for prompt response, when such incident occurs on the highway.
