Street Sweepers Storm Governor’s Office in Calabar in Protest Against Unpaid Salaries

Some street sweepers in Calabar Municipality and Calabar South, on Tuesday, stormed the Governor’s Office in Calabar to protest against their unpaid salaries.

Our correspondent, who covered the protest, observed that the aggrieved women barricaded the road with stones and leaves, as they pleaded with Governor Ben Ayade to come to their aid.

Speaking in an interview with our correspondent during the protest, the Calabar Municipality Sweepers said they have not received salaries in 4 months, while their counterparts in Calabar South highlighted that they have not been paid in 6 months.

The Street cleaners also lamented the untold hardship that they have had to endure.

Continuous efforts to reach the Commissioner for Environment, Mfon Bassey were futile as at news time.
