At Least 2 Trapped Under Rubble as 2-Storey Building Collapses In Calabar

At least 2 people were Saturday, April 29th trapped after a 2-storey building under construction collapsed at Nta-Eke Street, off Ikot-Eyo in Calabar Municipality, Cross River State.

Speaking in an interview with our correspondent at the scene of the occurrence, an eyewitness, who gave his name simply as Isaac, said that the laborers were working inside the building when it collapsed and trapped at least two of them.

Also speaking, one of the builders who survived the incident, blamed the owner of the property for the occurrence, and said they had cautioned him about the quality of materials being used for the building.

Our correspondent reports that first responders, including the Police, Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, as well as the Federal Road Safety Corps, were on ground at the scene of the occurrence to maintain law and order.

Rescue operations commenced as soon as a crane got to the scene, to help move heavy chunks of rubbles.
