The Cross River State Election Petitions Tribunal began sitting on Monday, at the Cross River High Court located at Moore Road, Calabar.

The tribunal, chaired by Justice Joy Oke Inah, has Justice Lawal Umar and Justice Olalakan Olatawura, as members.

The chairman, Justice Joy Oke Inah, while promising that the court will be fair to all those involved, warned both parties to avoid anything that will derail the course of justice.

The lead counsel representing the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate Sandy Onor, while responding to questions from the media, said his clients are challenging the APC’s nomination of the governor-elect Senator Bassey Otu, and his running mate Peter Odey, for the Saturday March 18th Governorship election, in which they were declared winners.

However, the lead counsel to the APC and the governor-elect, Mike Ozekhome, disagreed with the position, saying that it was premature to know what is being challenged, until pleadings in the case are completed.

This is even as he stressed that the case must be dispensed, within the time frame allowed by the law.
