Few days to the end of his administration, President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday virtually commissioned and handed over the New Ikom Bridge in Cross River State, just as he commissioned six other projects across the country simultaneously.

The other projects that were virtually commissioned by the president include the Second Niger Bridge, the Lokoja-Oweto Bridge in Nasarawa-Benue states, the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road, and federal secretariats in Gusau, Awka, Yenagoa in Zamfara, Anambra and Bayelsa states.

Speaking on the importance of the New Ikom Bridge and other infrastructural projects commissioned, the president said the projects are meant to reduce poverty and to create economic growth.

Also speaking, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, commended the President Buhari’s administration for investing heavily on infrastructure.

On his part, the governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Works, Dane Osim, commended the president for remembering the people of the state.

The state governor also called on the incoming administration to pay attention to other major projects in the state that need attention.

He further noted that the decision to build a new bridge was due to the inability of the old bridge to properly serve heavy duty trucks.
